I can't sleep tonight so I think I will spend some time telling you about my day...
It began with everyone sleeping in until 8:00. That was wonderful until I remembered that I was having some very special company and I needed to frantically finish cleaning my house, shower, get the kids breakfast, AND get Austin ready for school. So that's what I spent the next 30 minutes doing. We were all set and ready to go to the bus stop with about 1 minute to spare...then I remembered. I forgot to pack Austin's lunch!!! That was the fastest lunch I have ever made, even Dash himself would have been proud!
Okay, so Austin is off to school and I spend the next few minutes watching the garbage trucks with Kadin and Emma until Sarah arrives with her 16 month old daughter Ella. (Sarah was the nurse that cared for Timothy and myself in the hospital AND this was her first visit to my house)
Now I must say again. Sarah has only 1 daughter and she is 16 months old. I really hope that her visit at the Currey house didn't scare her into permanent birth control! Let me tell you a little more...They weren't in our house for more then 5 minutes before Kadin dumped an entire 2 pound bag of animal crackers all over the floor. He still wanted to eat them so I scooped some up into a bowl. After a few more minutes he proceeded to dump those (which I didn't pick up and he ate off the floor).
It was definitely crazy house day. I think Kadin as really enjoying himself. We had more then one episode of him walking around on top of the kitchen table. He even enjoyed playing a little game of toss from the top of the table (things he wasn't supposed to be tossing!). Then my wonderful children decided it would be fun to slide and jump off of the TOP of the couch.
I only turned my back for a second when I was making sandwiches. Kadin was instantly on the kitchen island with a sharp knife in hand. Both Sarah and I were trying to get the knife from him which caused him to start flailing. Yep...my son, sitting on the kitchen island, with a sharp knife, giggling and flailing.
I don't even know how many times we heard (add whiny voice here) "Stop Kadin! That's mine..." then Kadin response "AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!"
All the while her wonderful Ella was just sitting quietly like a perfect angel. Watching everything around her like, "wow mom, these guys are crazy!"
Sarah was extremely nice the entire time and we were able to giggle about everything together. But here I was trying to impress a new friend, to show her how well behaved my children are, and what a calm house I have. I don't think that I fooled her!! Oh well...at least she knows what she is getting into if she chooses to come again... *sigh*

I'm laughing with you right now! It could just as easily been at my house by the sound of it. Of course it's always worse when it is someone you are trying to impress, like someone without kids, or someone with only one child and somehow their child is perfect. Ever notice how everybody ELSE got perfect kids?? What's that about?
I am laughing too. What a fun day!
Every playdate after this will be a piece of cake. You were just getting the hard part out of the way....next time it will be Ella's turn :) Or Sarah will be one of those moms (like us) who 5 years from now has additional children of her own and finally "gets it". Then she will call YOU for advice on how to get through those busy moments. I'm so glad you blogged about it!
Sounds like a typical day in the Currey home to me! Note to self: finish creating padded locked room before next Wednesday...
